Two individuals rent an apartment in a poor neighborhood and decide to refurbish it. Beneath the linoleum covered floor they find a dead body that they want to get rid of, but the landlord appears and discovers that the victim is the...brother of the two individuals. In order to get rid of the body a delirious odyssey begins. Among other plans, they decide to take it to the airport, drag it on the tarmac and stage the unknown person's death: "We must go and see where it is the least dangerous to drag him through the airport...choose a flight and throw him under it...we must check the flight schedule". At the airport they meet a Boy who tells them about the famous Russian pianist Anton Rubinstein and how close he was, because of a border control error, to being deported to Siberia. But the dead body begins to move and then the worlds mix together as the dead body tells them: "I suggest you quietly go over what has happened to you today (...)?! And how come you can hear and see me, the dead guy - don't you realize? That's because you too are..."

The brothers Vladimir and Oleg Presnyakov write together. Their signature, Presnyakov brothers, quickly became a "trademark" of Russian theatre. Born in Ekaterinburg, they studied at the Gorki University in their home town. They are novelists, playwrights, script writers, directors, being considered the most staged Russian playwrights after Chekov. They became world-famous due to their play Terrorism, which was staged from Europe (England, Germany, Sweden, Poland, Norway, Spain, Irleand) to Australia. The Art Theatre in Moscow (MHAT) organized a Presnyakov Festival with productions based exclusively on their plays. The dialogues from their plays seem taken directly from the street, as they in fact examine, with sorrow and laughter, everyday life in Russia.  The play Floor covering was published in the 2005 volume entitled The Best.

"It's a simple, direct, true theatre", the director Alexandru Dabija told the actors. "The key is in the way we handle the dead body. At this point the play abandons realism and becomes something else. Who is the dead body you removed from under the floor covering? What do we do with a dead body? These are some of the questions I invite you to answer".
