Cluj-Napoca National Theatre continues the tradition of giving the students of the Faculty of Theatre and Television from Cluj the opportunity to perform on a professional stage, in front of our theatre's audience. This time it's a production performed and prepared by the students in Acting for their annual course dedicated to the life and works of I.L. Caragiale, held by Prof. Ion Vartic PhD, assisted by Lecturer Anca Hațiegan, PhD. Presenting this "practical" moment is one of the most long-expected moments at the Faculty of Theatre and Television from Cluj. As this time the students managed to create an extremely successful moment-production, we offered them the space at the "Euphorion" Studio. Cluj-Napoca National Theatre invites you to witness an important moment in the student life of future professional actors.
Lecturer Anca Hațiegan, PhD offered us more details about this production: "It is by now a tradition, instituted by Prof. Ion Vartic, PhD, that for the 2nd year exam in The History of Romanian Theatre (special course I.L. Caragiale), together with the theoretical exam, the students in Acting from the Faculty of Theatre and Television from Cluj must also stage some scenes, of their choice, from the works of Mr. Iancu.
This also happened last year: during the January-February exam session, so this time last year, the students of professors Bács Miklós, Irina Winze and Camelia Curuțiu held us - Prof. Vartic and myself, as I conduct the seminars for the course - for hours on some uncomfortable chairs in a ballet room and showed us the results of their work. And they did it so passionately and seriously, that we soon forgot the uncomfortable chairs and the fatigue of the session... It was an extraordinary event!
The story could have ended here, had the professor not insisted that the students' work see the limelight, in a formula that was, at that point, not yet clear to us. In the spring, during the open gates week at the Faculty of Theatre and Television, which happened to coincide with the pupils "different school" week, we scheduled the Caragiale production for the pupils visiting us. On this occasion, the students mobilized exemplary and found the presentation formula, aided by their coordinators, together with Prof. Miklós Bács. Initially, the scenes were not tied together. So what did the students do? Something apparently simple: they imagined a common framework for their stories. And then sketched it in chalk on the floor and walls of the "Radu Stanca" Studio! This is how "Grand Hôtel" was born, a space in which the students (now in their last year of studies) Andreea Bănică, Norbert Boda, Alexandru Chindriș, Blanca Doba, Radu Dogaru, Denisse Moise, Alex Popa, Dan Pughineanu, Irina Sibef, Cosmin Stănilă, Maria Teișanu, Victor Tunsu and Eric Țuțuianu now invite you to step in and enjoy yourselves, for an hour and a half, in the company of some of the heroes from Caragiale's writings. We guarantee that you will not wish to escape from their world, like the narrator from the famous Grand Hôtel "Victoria Română"!"
