Cluj-Napoca National Theatre invites you again to its performances! The 2015/2016 theatre seasons will start on August 30 with an innovative premiere, the concert-performance GOD'S PLAYGROUND, created and performed by Ada Milea and Alexander Bălănescu.
Ada Milea composed and interpreted the music for numerous performances in the country and in Cluj, collaborating with such important directors like Mihai Măniuţiu, Alexandru Dabija, Gábor Tompa or Radu Afrim. At Cluj-Napoca National Theatre, Ada Milea created a series of successful concert-performances, currently in our repertoire: APOLODOR and THE ISLAND, based on Gellu Naum, and WINTER SONGS FOR ALL SEASONS. Ada Milea returns to our stage, this time accompanied by the renowned violinist and composer of Romanian descent.
Settled in Great Britan, Alexander Bălănescu performed alongside important artists like To Rococo Rot, Spiritualized, Rabih Abou Khalil or The Pet Shop Boys. Considered one of the visionaries of contemporary music, at age 7 he began his studies at the Special Music School in Bucharest, later studying at the Rubin Academy in Jerusalem, Trinity College in London and at the Julliard School in New York. After completing his studies he returned to London and started collaborating with the dance world, at the London Contemporary Dance Theatre. In 1979 he became the leader of the Michael Nyman Ensemble, performing with them all over the world for 15 years. At the same time, he was a member of the Gavin Bryars Ensemble. In 1987 he founded his own Quartet together with whom he performed all over the world.
Ada Milea and Alexander Bălănescu have previously collaborated for other projects, like the English version of the concert-performance THE ISLAND, based on Gellu Naum. GOD'S PLAYGROUND represents an original concert-performance, with music and lyrics composed by the two artists.
