On the occasion of World Theatre Day, Cluj-Napoca National Theatre organizes the 6th edition of the DOORS OPEN DAY event, by now established as a tradition. The event will take place Thursday, 27 March 2014, 10:00-18:00.
For this year’s edition, Cluj-Napoca National Theatre presents a series of events especially created for this day, in collaboration with The German Cultural Center, Cluj-Napoca, British Council and the French Cultural Center from Cluj, in a desire to increase collaborations with other local cultural institutions. The Comic Books Corner of the German Cultural Center will present "The image jukebox" (from 12:00 to 17:00) and a series of workshops: the „Assembly line" Workshop (13:00 - 13:50), Mask crafting Workshop (14:00 - 14:50), Sticker crafting Workshop (15:00 - 15:50) and the Flipbook crafting Workshop (16:00 - 16:50). The Corner of the British Council will host, from 14:00 to 14:30, a public reading in English: William Manwood will read the story The Signalman by Charles Dickens, and from 12:00 to 17:00, a Reading Corner will be organized. The Corner of the French Institute will host a comic book workshop for secondary and high school students, coordinated by Adrian Barbu.
Also, the students in Acting from the Faculty of Theatre and Television from Cluj will present a series of short theatrical moments. The performance Neverland (fantasy with 8 children), based on Peter Pan and Wendy by J.M. Barrie, created by the 1st year students in Acting, professors Ionuţ Caras and Mara Opriş, will be presented from 12:00 to 12:30, in the „Euphorion" Studio. The 2nd year students, professor Miriam Cuibus, will present several Commedia dell’Arte moments in the theatre’s foyer, as follows: 14:30 - 14:50, 15:30 - 15:50, 16:30 - 16:50. The theatre will also host the exhibition The most beautiful Romanian Books, offered by the Association for Performance and Culture, which can be visited from 12:00 to 17:00. During this exhibition, from 16:00 to 16:30, you will have the chance to see the performance Letters with personality, interpreted by Silvius Iorga, actor at the Cluj-Napoca National Theatre, visual concept by Iulia Ţânţaş.
Of course, this year’s program would not be complete without our traditional annual events: The Children’s Corner, in partnership with „Puck" Puppet Theatre will present the interactive performance Dănilă Prepeleac, based on Ion Creangă, directed by Traian Savinescu, on the Main Stage, from 10:00 to 11:00, followed by an interactive puppet theatre demonstration with Frunzina Anghel (11:00 - 12:00).
From 12:00 to 16:15 you can take part in our Backstage visits, guided by the actors.
This year, the „Restitutions" Corner presents the production Matrimonio all’italiana by Eduardo de Filippo, directed by Dorel Vişan, a 1991 production of the Cluj-Napoca National Theatre. You will have the opportunity to watch a screening with fragments of the production and discuss with the actors from the cast, Melania Ursu and Petre Băcioiu (from 13:00 to 14:30, 2nd Floor Foyer, left-hand side).
From 15:00 to 15:30, at 2nd Floor Foyer, left-hand side, the actor Ruslan Bârlea will present the collage of monologues Portraits of actors.
The event will end with an open rehearsal, followed by discussions with the production team of Hamlet by William Shakespeare, directed by Roberto Bacci, from 17:00, on the Main Stage.
Throughout the event, we will host projections with images from the theatre productions and archive bills, the BookStory Bookstore will present its book offer, Doamna T café will wait for you up-stairs with treats, and the Derzelas Association, in a Spring Fair, will exhibit and sell objects made by teenagers with speech or hearing impediments.
