The INTERNATIONAL MEETINGS IN CLUJ is dedicated to an author or a topic, on which occasion our Theatre prepares its own productions and invites productions from other Romanian theatres to Cluj. The first edition of the festival celebrated the dramatic works of one of the most important Romanian surrealist writers, GELLU NAUM (2011), the following edition focused on the topic EAST-WEST (2012) combining vision of Western directors with the craft of Romanian actors, and 2013 the event focused on GEORGE BANU, one of the most important theatre researcher and critic in the world. In 2014, the festival focused on the diversity of stage manifestations under the title THE PATHS OF FREEDOM, and in 2015, OUR EUROPE brought forth the issues of our European identity and values. The 2016 edition, IN SEARCH OF THE AUTHOR, wanted to create a meeting between successful contemporary authors (Robert Cohen, Rodrigo García and Matei Vișniec), the actors performing in their plays and the spectators interested in today's social and artistic problems. The 2017 edition, EXTREMES, was dedicated to different types of extremes, both in theatre and other artistic forms.

The festival gathers numerous theatre specialists from Romania and abroad, director, actors, set designers, musicians, playwrights or theatre critics which the audience will get a chance to meet during a series of public events. Thus, for a few days, the Cluj-Napoca National Theatre becomes the meeting point between theatre specialists from all over the world, as well as between them and the Cluj spectators. At the same time, the event invites the spectators to participate in multiple other activities, from exhibitions, recitals, film screenings and workshops, to conferences, debates and book launches.

Through this program, the Cluj-Napoca National Theatre aims to protect and promote the Romanian theatre culture in a European and international context. As a result of the responsible involvement of our theatre and its partners in organizing these international meetings, we are convinced that they will initiate and consolidate, in a valuable and substantial environment, a creative national and international dialogue. The aim of the festival is to create dialogue platform between various cultural personalities and to initiate communication networks between theatre personalities from all over the world, as well as to carry out cultural colaborations and initiative in an international context.
