100 YEARS OF NATIONAL THEATRE IN YOUR TOWN
In March 2019, the National Theatre of Cluj-Napoca launched a drawings competition in all highschools and secondary schools from Cluj, on the topic of the Centenary of the theatre. Tens of children and teenagers between 8 and 18 years responded to the call. The jury, formed by Ștefana Pop-Curșeu, the artistic director of the National Theatre, the scenographer Adriana Grand and the actress Adriana Băilescu, selected 100 drawings that were displayed in the foyer of the Theatre, during the Gates Open Day from March 27, 2019. The best works were awarded within a gala especially organized during the Gates Open Day.
GRAPHIC CONCEPT COMPETITION
We have invited students and graduates of the Arts Universities to bring forth their ideas in order to forge the visual identity of the ninth edition of the International Meetings in Cluj Festival, whose current topic is Together, and which takes place between 8-13 October 2019.
The visual concept of every poster has focused until now upon the depiction of the festival's topic from the given year. You can access the theatre site in order to examine and comprehend the previous concepts, but also to get a glimpse of the aims and range of our current project here: http://www.teatrulnationalcluj.ro/pagina-39/intalnirile-internationale-de-la-cluj/.
In what concerns the creative requirements of this year's poster, we are looking for a visual identity able to highlight not only the topic chosen for this edition, but also its celebratory dimension. Since the National Theatre of Cluj-Napoca celebrates one hundred years of functioning as an iconic institution of national culture, the Festival intends to celebrate, TOGETHER with all those that share the love for theatre and the belief in the power of art to elevate the contemporary world through the performance art.
We are looking for a vivid image, able to convey the constant energy and renewal of the theatre stage. However, specific theatre elements need be used only if the creator deems them necessary, but even so, they should be depicted as originally and impactfully as possible.
This competition is meant to pave the way for new and promising collaborations with young professional graphic-designers, for the projects of the National Theatre in the seasons to come.
Requirements: every participant can apply with a maximum number of 2 posters (technique at choice, poster size of 60/90 cm, JPG format), accompanied by a short description of his vision and a CV. The elements used within the poster should not involve copyright, and the creator should only present original proposals, in his own name or with a collective signature.
The poster should contain as mandatory elements:
The logo of the National Theatre
The logo of the Festival
THE INTERNATIONAL MEETINGS IN CLUJ
The time interval
8 - 13 October 2019
The time interval of the competition: 25 April - 30 May 2019.
The winner is announced publicly on 7 June 2019.
The jury is formed by Mihai Măniuțiu (the manager of the National Theatre), Ștefana Pop-Curșeu (artistic director), Horea Avram (art critic, Assistant Professor), and the Marketing, Communication & PR team of the National Theatre.
The winning project will be remunerated.
