Our first production of Elling by Ingvar Ambjørnsen, in a stage adaptation by Axel Hellstenius, which premiered in November 2014, won the Audience Award at the 2015 Cluj-Napoca National Theatre Awards Gala. If in the 2014 production the titular character was played by Dan Chiorean, in the new production Elling is embodied by actor Sorin Misirianțu, who is also the director of the performance. Relocated to our Studio hall, the production creates a stronger sense of intimacy, bringing the audience closer to the two main characters - Elling and Kjell Bjarne - and the heartwarming story of their friendship. They are two outsiders absolutely terrified by society, and the performance depicts their reintegration to a normal living that is completely foreign to them, in their innocence and marginalisation, essentialy deriving from their personal histories. The show gives us the chance to join the two on the road to fulfillment, and it is one ridden with humour and great tenderness.
