The Midsummer’s Night Dream belongs to Shakespeare’s first period of comedies, the sentimental and lyrical-faerie one, and it is inspired by The Faerie Queene, the great unfinished poem by Spencer. The action takes place during one night, the longest of the year, when the imaginary invades the reality. Shakespeare puts face to face the court nobility and the common people who will perform in the woods. The characters’ feelings, placed in this onirical ambiance are subject to the most unexpected reactions, moving with an amazing easiness from ardent love to cruelty.
