In memoriam
Gheorghe Radu
20 April 1920 - 23 June 2010
On his 90th year of life, the actor Gheorghe Radu passed away.
He graduaded from the Dramatic Art Conservatory in Iaand in 1940, as the favourite student of his professor, the great actress Agatha Bârsescu. Gheorghe Radu started his career at Iaand National Theatre. Later, he performed in Bucharest, at Victor Ion Popa’s Labor and Light Theatre, at the Comedy Theatre under the direction of Sică Alexandrescu, at the North Theatre in Satu-Mare, and the Turda State Theatre. Uninterruptedly, he performed for three decades at Cluj-Napoca National Theatre.
The Cosmonaut’s Last Message to the Woman He Once Loved in the Former Soviet Union by David Greig will premiere at Cluj-Napoca National Theatre’s opening of the 2010/2011 season.
The curtain fell down for the last time for Esti. And the order wasn’t given by her, from the small technical cabin backstage. The speakers didn’t vibrate anymore at the sound of her words "Thank you the performance!", a saying of hers that always produced a sentimental smile.
Our bellowed colleague, the stage manager Estera Biró, passed away on the night of 4 June 2010, in Cluj. Born on 23 April, 1939 in Cluj, Estera Biró was part of the Cluj-Napoca National Theatre’s team since 23 October 1963 until 4 June 2010.
Those who wish to pay their respects may do so in the National Theatre’s foyer on Wednesday, 9 June 2010, from 11am to 12am. The church service will start at 12pm in the foyer of the Theatre, after which we will depart for the central cemetery. The burial will take place at the central cemetery, starting at 2pm.
THE ASSASSIONATION OF THE MARQUIS DE SADE by Marius Benţa, based on texts written by the Marquis de Sade, opens on Saturday 22 May 2010, at 3pm, at the "Euphorion" Studio, as part of the "Debut" Program.
