The National Theatre of Cluj-Napoca is inviting you to take part in the celebration of the 60th World Theatre Day, on March 27th 2022.
World Theatre Day was established in 1961 by ITI (The International Theatre Institute in Paris) and has been celebrated every year since 1962, when Jean Cocteau wrote the first address especially for the event. Ever since, each year, an important personality has been invited to compose this message. This year, it was written by Peter Sellars: theatre, opera, and festival director.
World Theatre Day is meant to promote theatre in all its forms all over the world, making people aware of the value of this artistic field, and to share the joy of theatre with everybody. Therefore, with this purpose in mind, we are inviting you to take part in a special event in which the theatre and the public can come to know and rediscover each other. In preparation of the main event, we have set up an outdoor exhibition in the pedestrian area of Eroilor Boulevard (next to the Memorandum Monument), which was organised in partnership with the National History Museum of Transylvania. The vernissage will take place on March 18th, at 11 a.m.
A Journey through the World of the National Theatre – with people, about theatre, with love is designed as a dynamic exhibition, with questions that are bound to catch the attention of the passers-by and answers in the shape of beautiful photographic images. It is suitable for all ages and will be open from March 15th to March 27th 2022. The people of Cluj, young and old, will have access to important yet less-known details about the exterior and the interior architecture of the National Theatre, about the great cultural personalities, both local and national, who have left their mark on the history of the Theatre and about performances which have become legendary. At the same time, the exhibition is a celebration of the beautiful projects happening at the moment at the National Theatre: events such as Doors Open Day and Night, The Festival “International Encounters in Cluj”, outdoor shows during “The Days of Cluj”; above all, it is meant to celebrate the people acting on stage and working backstage, who have kept and still keep the magic of theatre alive.
The main event of World Theatre Day will take place on the stage of the National Theatre of Cluj-Napoca and represents the debut of a project organised in partnership with the local association Create.Act.Enjoy.
Thus, on March 27th 2022, at 7 p.m., you are invited into the Great Hall, recently reopened at full capacity, for the show The Gamblers by N.V. Gogol, directed by Ionuț Caras. For the first time in the history of the National Theatre of Cluj-Napoca, the actors will be joined on stage by Iulia Savoș, psychopedagogue, systemic psychotherapist, and sign language interpreter, who will translate the play in real time for the hearing impaired audience. Thus, the association Create.Act.Enjoy, in line with its main project, i.e., promoting wellbeing and therapy through community art, proposes an encounter between the National Theatre of Cluj-Napoca and vulnerable groups, with the aim of increasing awareness regarding access to cultural events for these spectators. The National Theatre will continue this partnership, and the project is bound to be further developed, so that certain shows will be periodically adapted to various categories of disabled spectators.
Access to this show is free of charge for the hearing impaired and is allowed based on a ticket obtained from the Ticket Office by presenting one’s identity card. For the other spectators, the price remains unchanged.
All theatre lovers are welcome to watch the show! The performance will also have English supertitles, so that it can be enjoyed by as diverse an audience as possible.
The evening will begin with the reading of Peter Sellars’ international address, and right after the show you will be invited to take part in a conversation with the production team. On the evening of March 27th, we have another premiere, as well: we are launching the on-demand video platform TNC at HOME, which will provide theatre lovers around the world with the possibility to access the recordings of the most beloved productions of the National Theatre. With the aim of facilitating and expanding access to our shows, all the recordings on the platform have Romanian and English subtitles. The platform can be accessed through the National Theatre’s website, www.teatrulnationalcluj.ro.

The National Theatre of Cluj-Napoca reaffirms its solidarity with Ukraine in these times of severe humanitarian, social, and political crisis.
We have joined the initiatives of the Ukrainian Union from Romania, the Cluj Branch, which has set up a special fund called “For peace in Ukraine and solidarity with the Ukrainian people”, with a view to providing humanitarian aid to the Ukrainian citizens from the areas affected by the war.

At the same time, a collection box will be placed in the foyer of the National Theatre before and after each show, with the resulting sums being transferred into the aforementioned accounts.

Gândită sub o formă dinamică, cu întrebări care să incite curiozitatea trecătorilor și cu răspunsuri în frumoase imagini fotografice, expoziția Călătorie prin lumea Teatrului Național - cu oameni, despre teatru, cu dragoste se adresează tuturor categoriilor de vârstă și va fi deschisă din data de 15 martie până în data de 27 martie 2022. De la mici la mari, clujenii vor putea afla detalii semnificative, dar mai puțin cunoscute, despre arhitectura exterioară și interioară a clădirii Teatrului Național, despre marile personalități ale culturii clujene și naționale care și-au pus amprenta asupra istoriei Teatrului și despre spectacolele care au devenit legendare. De asemenea, expoziția va sărbători momentele frumoase din prezentul Teatrului Național: evenimentele Ziua și Noaptea Porților Deschise, Festivalul Întâlnirile Internaționale de la Cluj, spectacolele în aer liber cu ocazia „Zilelor Clujului“ și, mai ales, va sărbători oamenii de pe scenă și din spatele scenei care au făcut și fac mereu totul ca magia teatrului să rămână vie.
Evenimentul principal al Zilei Mondiale a Teatrului va avea loc pe scena Teatrului Național din Cluj-Napoca și reprezintă începutul unui proiect organizat în parteneriat cu Asociația clujeană Create.Act.Enjoy.
Așadar, pe 27 martie 2022, de la ora 19:00, vă invităm în Sala mare, proaspăt redeschisă la capacitate maximă, la spectacolul CARTOFORII de N.V. Gogol, în regia lui Ionuț Caras, unde, pentru prima dată pe scena Teatrului Național din Cluj, alături de actorii noștri va urca Iulia Savoș, psihopedagog, psihoterapeut sistemic și interpret în limbaj mimico-gestual, care va traduce spectacolul, în timp real, pentru spectatorii cu deficiențe de auz.
Astfel, Asociația Create.Act.Enjoy, în cadrul direcției principale de promovare a importanței stării de bine și a terapiei prin artă în comunitate, propune întâlnirea dintre Teatrul Național Cluj-Napoca și grupurile vulnerabile, cu scopul creșterii gradului de conștientizare asupra accesibilizării evenimentelor culturale pentru grupuri vulnerabile. Teatrul Național va continua acest parteneriat, urmând ca proiectul să fie dezvoltat, astfel încât să existe o periodicitate în programarea spectacolelor sale care vor fi accesibilizate pentru diferite categorii de persoane cu deficiențe.
Accesul la acest spectacol este gratuit pentru persoanele cu deficiențe de auz și se face pe baza unui bilet eliberat de la Agenția de bilete a Teatrului, în baza legitimației.
Prețul biletelor pentru celelalte categorii de spectatori rămâne neschimbat.
Toți iubitorii de teatru sunt așteptați să participe la spectacol! Reprezentația va beneficia și de supratitrare în limba engleză, astfel încât să poată fi vizionată de un public cât mai divers.
Seara va începe cu lectura mesajului internațional scris de Peter Sellars, iar imediat după spectacol vă invităm să participați la discuțiii cu realizatorii spectacolului.
Seara de 27 martie va mai marca o premieră: lansarea platformei de conținut video la cerere TNC la tine ACASĂ, care va oferi iubitorilor de teatru de pretutindeni posibilitatea de a accesa înregistrările celor mai îndrăgite spectacole ale Teatrului Național. În prelungirea direcției de facilitare și extindere a accesului la producțiile noastre, toate înregistrările disponibile pe platformă beneficiază de subtitrări în limba română și în limba engleză. Accesul pe platformă se va realiza prin intermediul site-ului Teatrului Național www.teatrulnationalcluj.ro.

Teatrul Național Cluj-Napoca își reafirmă solidaritatea cu Ucraina, în aceste momente de gravă criză umanitară, socială și politică.
Ne-am alăturat inițiativei Uniunii Ucrainenilor din România, Filiala Cluj, care a deschis un fond special, denumit „Pentru pacea în Ucraina și solidaritate cu poporul ucrainean", în vederea acordării de sprijin umanitar cetățenilor ucraineni din zonele afectate de conflict.
