The performance Amalia breathes deeply by Alina Nelega, directed by Tudor Lucanu and played by Anca Hanu - who was awarded for this part, at the 2015 UNITER Galas The Best Leading Actress Award and a year before, The Best Actress Award at the Short Theatre Festival of Oradea - will participate in Lyon at the International Theatre Festival Sens interdits which takes place between 19-29 October 2017. Amalia breathes deep will have three presentations, on 28 and 29 October, at Théâtre de l'Élysée from Lyon.
Initiated by Théâtre Célestins, the festival invites productions that use theatre as a weapon, creating profoundly political performances, focused on the appeal to memory and the resistance through theatre, whose artists speak about democracy, tolerance, freedom of expression and of conscience. The festival has reached its 5th edition and has now a large opening towards street theatre. The festival will include twenty one performances from seventeen countries.
As Anca Hanu pointed out in an interview, Amalia got to be invited in Lyon by chance. A certain passerby through Cluj, a festival-goer, saw the performance one evening. Since everybody has heard of Ceaușescu, and since his portrait is very visible, this passerby realized the story could be of great interest to those who set resistance through theatre as a goal. "Despite the language barrier, because the show is touching; you can understand it, when it's a matter of the heart", said Anca Hanu. And she was right indeed.
